Quebec Open 2013 Rd9-Top 4 Boards

  • GM Bruzon beat IM Gerzhoy's French Defence is spectacular fashion. 
  • GM Rozentalis could not convert a promising position against GM Moradiabadi and had to settle for a draw. 
  • GM Sulskis played a marathon but got nowhere in a fascinating Q+P vs. RBN battle against GM Kovalyov.

Game 1
The solid Queen's Indian proved its worth and yielded GM Rozentalis a solid equal position to play from. Rozentalis won a pawn and then another but but could not covert two extra pawns in the RB-RN ending.

GMs Bruzon and Rozentalis share the lead with 5/5/7. IMs Hambleton and Gerzhoy are in a group of 6 players with 5/7. Jason Cao has 3/7.

GM Rozentalis converted a nice queen ending for the victory which put him in shared first with GM Bruzon. IM Hambleton had to defend a 103-move marathon before earning a tough draw against GM Moradiabadi.
